Beyond the Pink & Blue

The toy industry often reinforces gender stereotypes by targeting products to specific genders, setting a precedent for future products. From Barbie to Mortal Kombat: Gender and Computer Games explores how these gendered assumptions shape product design and marketing, particularly in gaming. The book calls for challenging these stereotypes to create a culture where products aren’t confined by gender.

This project reimagines six everyday food products with no inherent gender association, deliberately gendered in their packaging through satire. By doing so, it highlights the absurdity of these stereotypes and exposes ongoing gender bias in markets. Ultimately, this project advocates for a cultural shift—rejecting stereotypes and allowing individuals to define their own experiences.
