WelcomPost
This was my capstone project for my Bachelor in Design at IE University. WelcomPost reconnects urban households with their food sources through a communal compost system that transforms food waste into valuable nutrients, reducing landfill waste and methane emissions.
In Spain, households waste 18% of their food annually—2.9 million tonnes (EU Fusions). Existing solutions like individual compost bins are tedious, while municipal systems lack personalization. WelcomPost bridges the gap with the PostUnit, a communal vermicompost bin in shared building spaces, and the PostCaddy, a kitchen container for residents. Sensors in the PostUnit track capacity enable efficient maintenance and reduce costs.
WelcomPost is scalable, sustainable, and adaptable for cities worldwide, offering long-term environmental benefits.
